Democrat Sheriff Accepts $20K Pay-to-Play Donation

Georgetown, TX – The Williamson County Republican Party today became aware of a highly suspect campaign donation received by Democrat Sheriff Mike Gleason, who is on the November ballot for reelection. As reported on his most recent campaign finance report, Gleason received a hefty contribution of $20,000 from Henry Higgins of Cedar Park on September 20. Four days later, Gleason was instrumental in awarding Family Hospital Management Company a $511,000 contract with Williamson County Corrections, a department under the purview of the Sheriff. The website for Family Hospital Systems lists Dr. Henry Higgins as its founder and CEO.

In a memo signed by Sheriff Gleason, publicly available as part of the September 24 Commissioners Court agenda, he states “[t]he Williamson County Sheriff’s Office recommends that Family Hospital Management Company, LLC be awarded the Medical and Psychological Services contract for Williamson County”. There were two other companies that competed for this contract.

“We can only conclude that Sheriff Gleason has found a way to pad his campaign coffers by awarding lucrative contracts to his donors. The Williamson County Republican Party calls on Sheriff Gleason to immediately return this pay-to-play donation,” said Michelle Evans, Williamson County Republican Party Chairman.
